1076.0. "BMT and fileset " by TKTVFS::SUWABE (Susumu Suwabe /OCC/CSC/MCS) Fri Jun 06 1997 06:43

I would like to know about (1)how to allocate BMT and(2) how AdvFS
use fileset(directory) in multi-volume environment. I have to explain this
for the customer at this weekend.

        1) In multi-volume environment, I know that AdvFS choose the volume
           for the new files is a round-robin order(Note 769.1).
So, In general, the Metadata and it's file blocks are always in
           the same volume?
                So,
normally BMT and free blocks in the same volume are used for
	   the new file?

I know that "migrate" command that can change the restoring
volume for the file without moving it's Metadata. This is only
           done "migrate" command?
                So,
normally AdvFS does not operate this order?

Customer is going to creat one volume set by 20(rz29b) disk drive.
Customner wondor that the only one volume BMT will be use for
	   all files in the multi-volume.

        2) Which the volume have the fileset under this configuration?

          multi-volume
          mkfdm addvol
          --------- --------
         | | | |
         | Volume 1| |Volume 2|
         | | | |
         | | | |
          --------- --------

Dose the fileset spread both volumes?
                        or
The every fileset in the multi-volume are created in the only one
          volume?
