1021.0. "NFS exporting seperate file domains?" by CHEFS::MAGUIRE_G () Wed Mar 19 1997 06:15

    Hello,

I have a couple of quick questions about AdvFS regarding the exports of
AdvFS file sets and also the undelete facility for AdvFS files that
    have been NFS mounted.

    The first question is this.

    1) If a there are a number of file sets within an AdvFS domain can they be
nfs exported seperately, or must we only export the parent file domain?

    2) If a file under AdvFS has been nfs exported. Can a trashcan facility
be set up in order to prevent the file that has been nfs exported from
being deleted by a user from the remote system?

    Thanks,
    	   Gerry.

Hello Gerry. Yes, each fileset within a domain can be nfs exported
separately.
You will probably be exporting directories within the filesets.

The trashcan facility should work whether a directory is nfs exported or not.
It works on a fileset basis: you can attach any number of directories in a
specified fileset to a trashcan directory. Any file that is deleted from one
of the attached directories can be recovered from the trashcan directory.
(See
the manpage.)

The trashcan directory assumes that its users have write permissions to it.
If this is a problem, then there isn't a way within this utility to prevent
a user from deleting the file out of the trashcan deliberately.

Also, note that the trashcans have to be set up on the host machine that's
exporting the AdvFS fileset(s). The NFS client can't set up the trashcans.

Thanks for the clarification on the trashcan directories.

Can I just confirm that the seperate directories in the file sets can
be exported differently as well? I'm afraid that the customer is
    somewhat pedantic.

    Regards,
            Gerry.

Hello. Yes, the separate directories can be exported separately as well.
This should follow the NFS protocol.
