293.12Questions on sealantsCSC32::SALEM::LEMAYThu Feb 06 1997 13:1422
    We've been talking about sealants and gaskets in the British note and
    it dawned on me that I have an application that I'm not sure what to
    use on it.

    If your familiar with Knuckleheads you know the rocker boxes consist of
    little tin stamped pans and covers behind the infamous cast knuckles
    you see on the right side of the engine. These pans are held in place
    and sealed at their base by the valve guides.

    My question is what's a good goop to use between the pans and the heads
    when pressing in the guides? The problems as I see it are high heat,
    and hot oil. I don't think the oil is under pressure in this area as
    it's supossed to be drawn back to the cam cover under vacuum through
    the push rod covers. Also it only leaks when sitting a while, not
    when running and when there's vacuum.

    Based on my experience with Yamabond this appears to have the best
    properties but I don't know if it can withstand the heat there.
    What kind of temperatures can I expect at the guides on a cast iron
    head?
