237.0. "Anybody racing this year ???" by CSC32::S_LEDOUX (Want some cheese with that whine ?) Tue Apr 01 1997 22:40

Quiet times lately ... I'm racing in pueblo this month and limon next month.
They're both ISDE reliability-type enduros. I'll write a race report just to
make sure notes still works. Anybody else doing any racing this year ??

Also I'm in conflict: The Pikes Peak SX is on July 19th and Calamity Pass (a
national) Enduro is on the 20th. No way to do both, decisions, decisions ...

I got it. Maybe I'll race the SX and provide some laughs.

237.1going to try to...CSC32::C_BENNETTWed Apr 02 1997 11:366
    I was continplating the CMTRA / RMEC enduro April 19 down in Pueblo -
    haven't got numbers yet. Somehow with all the snow laying around
    its hard to start thinking about enduros - although I have been
    riding in it all winter... Where has everyone in this
    conference went? Unless Norm Lastovica (oracle?) has fallen
    off the end of the earth maybe he is gong-ho for an enduro?
237.2pueblo is always fun and becomes a real enduro if they get wetCSC32::S_LEDOUXWant some cheese with that whine ?Wed Apr 02 1997 20:049
The cmtra/rmec enduro in pueblo is on the 13th. I just sent in the entry
forms for myself and a couple kids. They will race the junior 14/under class
and I'm racing sportsman. Pre-entry is over on the 7th after that its 5 bucks
more. Last PMI enduro was awesome due to the foot of snow that fell saturday,
freezing sunday morning with a rush upto about 60 degrees by noon. First loop
in a foot of snow, second loop in a foot of mud. Race was called before the
second loop got done. The special test was/is-again the kids mx-track to the
west of the real track. My (then) 11 year old took 2nd jr/14 last year and
pumped to try it again.

    o the joys of springtime riding in Colorado...
237.4No Snow Run.CAMONE::SCHIESSLMon Apr 07 1997 16:506

    At least you guys got a chance to run. We had to cancel the Snow Run
    Enduro this year for the first time in 43 years. The State wouldn't
    let us run with the amount of warm weather and rain that we had.

237.5Maybe a few enduros.CAMONE::SCHIESSLMon Apr 07 1997 16:517

    And as for racing....

    I am going to try to get the Husky back together and run a few Enduros
    this year. I'd like to have one trophy that says "A" on it.

The only way I'll ever own a "A" trophy is if I steal one and club its owner
to death with it.
237.7Moving on....CAM::SCHIESSLThu Apr 10 1997 17:5416

    Well, didn't find a better place to put this, so....

    Tomorrow, April 11th, is my last day as a Digital employee. This is my
    choice, not Digital's. I will be moving on to MassMutual Insurance
    in Springfield, MA.

    I have always enjoyed this conference (even though it has gotten a
    little sparse lately). I had always hoped to get to Colorado and ride
    with some of these guys. It must be unbelieveable.

    Good luck to all. Just remember, the rocks are easier the faster you
    go!!!

PMI enduro was alot of fun. First and foremost PMI supporters should know
that pmi is now closed. We weren't allowed on the mx track even though the
entry form said we would be. Rumors are that as soon as the lease is up
the city of pueblo will build a hospital there. pueblo has been booming and
that land is getting more and more valuable... anyways...

Temp was a balmy 31 degrees when we started out on row 23 of 60. The loop
of 24 miles of sandy and rocky single track followed by a 3 mile moto-x and
the format was loop-moto-loop-moto-loop-moto. The loop was an easy 18mph
average and most riders arrived 2-6 minutes early on all checks (isde type
so no points lost for early arrivals). I zeroed all the checks. My son
carded a 0-2-0-0-0-1-0-0-14-0-0-0. His 14 came when he went the wrong way
in a dust cloud and I guess he forgot about the "course marker every half
mile" rule. He was way miffed to discover himself at check #8 *twice* :)))
My almost-stepson derek busted his clutch lever in a crash between checks
1 and 2. End of race for him.

I felt really strong through the first two loops/motos but was so tired
on the last loop I couldn't get my lazy but off the seat. During the last
moto I was passed by two riders on row 24 and all of row 25 so I know I
was slow -- nobody passed me in the first two motos.

Results will be here in a couple weeks...

    HI,

      I was just wondering if powerlines are ok to ride on. I do some
    riding on the powerlines and was just wondering if I could get in some
    big trouble being on them or not?

    Thanks, Roger

    Man you must be real good if you can ride ON a powerline! I usually
    ride on the ground  (under powerlines)    ;-}

    Riding under powerlines is another issue - depends on where you are I
    would guess...

    Is there a designated trail system under the powerline? Where are
    you located?

237.11Power Lines ??FABSIX::R_LORIONTue Apr 22 1997 01:574
    I'm good but not that good and I did mean under the powerlines!!!!!
    There are trails and roads under the powerlines and I havn't seen
    any NO TRESPASSING signs anywhere around where I ride so I guess I
    must be safe for the time being.

    It sounds like you are out east... Don't really know what the power
    companies out east say on this...
237.13I bet they'd say no...CSC32::S_LEDOUXWant some cheese with that whine ?Wed Apr 30 1997 18:427
I bet I could make a prediction. The power companies either own that land or
have an easement. If you ask them they'll say NO due to the liability angle.
If you are back east and want legal places to ride review the last couple notes
and send mail to gary s. at his forwarding email address (he left digital)
and ask him. He's an "A" enduro rider and is well acquainted with new england.
