2185.0. "Two TZ877 for one run??" by MUNICH::REIN (How come holes in SWISS CHEESE??) Wed Jan 29 1997 07:31

    Hallo SLS-FANs,

A customer of mine has 2 TZ877 on a cluster and wants to use it
    in multiple drive backup operation.

So he wants to load 2 magazines on friday and then run a full backup
of his entire disks over the weekend.

Is there any special parameter setting to look for, and in what manor
    the backup is done?

In my mind SLS uses drive 1, 1. cartr., then drive 2, cartr 1, then
drive 1, cartr 2, then drive 2, cartr. 2 and so on.

How is the behaviour, when I import magazines with storage import
magazin and set autosel = 1, i.e. use the drives as jukebox?

I think the first I can only do in stacker mode?

    Did anyone test it?

    kind regards

    Volker

All you should need to do is set N_DRIVES to 2 in the SBK file to
get the back and forth behavior between the two TZ877's drives.
This should work whether or not your TZ877s are used as stackers
as jukeboxes. If stacker mode is used AUTOSEL should be 0 so that
SLS will use the next volume presented to it by the stacker when
the backup fills one tape and spans to another. If the TZ877s are
defined a jukebox name in TAPESTART.COM's TAPE_JUKEKBOXES then
AUTOSEL should be 1 so that SLS will pick the next free volume in
the jukebox of the drive SLS is about to use next and therefor
send the robot commands to load that free tape.
