This problem will be fixed in V2.9. With the fix in place,
CONTLOADOPT=0 becomes the best option for unattended backups (using
AUTOSEL=1) to magazine loaders and libraries (TL8xx, Storagetek silos,
etc.).
Thanks for bringing the problem to our attention.

| Related scenario, if UNATTENDED_BACKUP = 1, CONTLOADOPT= 2 and I
have a blank tape (previously UNINITILIASED) then I would expect the tape
to be automatically inited by SLS, ie the OPCOM message to be satisfied
without needing operator reply.
Is my assumption correct for 2.8 and does it change in 2.9 ?
|
| My experience was that SLS will WAIT for an operator reply, even if
UNATTENDED_BACKUP=1 (see my test in .7).
On the one hand, with UNATTENDED_BACKUP=1 and CONTLOADOPT=2, I would also
have expected SLS to initialize these blank volumes, but on the other hand
it would be a dangeuous idea that SLS starts initializing volume every
time it detects a volume label mismatch... So I think the behaviour is
not really that wrong.
For V2.9, only the behaviour for CONTLOADOPT=0 has changed, so that
SLS will continue with another volume.
This is the answer from Marty on my CLD (IPMT BRO100919 , CFS.48536) :
