I'm currently in the market for a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse switch.
since the last topic here is a little old I'll ask if anyone has any current
experience. From what I've seen so far there are cheap units and expensive
units with not much in between. I know that there are issues with maximum
resolution (frequency response) for the monitor and problems connecting and
disconnecting the mouse. Any other thoughts wuld be appreciated.

I'm thinking of upgrading my pc and keeping the old one as a server.
Since most places sell boxes without monitors and I already have a good large
monitor, a monitor switch would cost me the same as a monitor and save me the
space.

Thanks
John

    John,

I bought a decent switch from a mail-order outfit called the Hartford
Computer Group. The manufacturer is ABL Electronics; model Master
View. 4 ports, supports both PS/2 and regular AT style keyboard/mouse
and good video. I run mine at 1024x768 75Hz with only very minor video
distortion. Base unit cost $252. 6 foot cable sets per port runs $25.

I'm very happy with it. I do have 4 machines hooked up to it. ;-)

I put a switch in and got some noticeable monitor distortion at
1024x768. The distortion was clearest when vertical black lines were
drawn on white backgrounds. It didn't interfere with reading, but it
    was annoying.

The problem was in the total cable length rather than the switch. I
fixed it by cutting out the middle of a six-foot cable and soldering
the wires together to make a two-foot cable.
