3007.0. "Recommendations for ComputerGate" by CSC32::DEBRITO (Art DeBrito, DirecTV Team, dtn 592-4955) Mon May 05 1997 20:58

Has anyone ever dealt with the ComputerGate International? They seem to
have some great cable prices and I just wonder about quality.

    thanks

I used C-Gate a few years back during a project for Digital. We had
committed to our customer to have a prototype system for the project up
and running on December 1. Well, it was the last week of November and
we noticed that no one had ordered the 8 modem cables needed to
connect the 8 modems to the terminal server in time for the December 1
    test.

I looked in our internal catalog. The 8 cables had a retail value of
about $270 and we'd have no assurance that they'd arrive in time. I
called C-Gate. I ordered 9 cables (added a spare, just in case) plus a
couple gender benders and an LED line tester. I asked them to ship it
FedEx 2 day. It was on my desk in 48 hours for a total cost of $27
    and change.

Another time, I ordered some cables from home. One item I ordered was
a 99 cent hood that connected an RJ-11 phone line to a DB9 connector.
I received the order as promised. Then, they called me -- from the
opposite coast during business hours. It seems that one of the bins
containing my 99 cent piece was mis-filled on the day they processed my
order. They wanted to make certain that I had received the correct
part! They must have blown their profit margin on the order (about
$20 total) just by making the call, but they sure won me over that day!

Their products were same generic parts that you can find at any
computer show. But the price and service aspects of this place leaves
me with nothing but praise for them!
