    My father has a Epson Stylus Color IIs (model P870A) connected
    to his 386 (8 MB RAM) Windows 3.1 system.  All works fine when
    printing Black and White.
    
    Try to print on color and it goes VERY SLOW............even on
    a none-filled colored object.
    
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    
    Is it the fact that the system is a 386 and can't keep data going
    to the printer fast enough?

    Has anyone tried printing across a LAN with Epson's 'spool manager 3'?
    The help file is difficult to understand, and it says something about
    setting up a spool directory on the target machine. I wrote an EMail
    to Epson's tech support, and I got back a canned response with things
    to try, still no printing from remote computers (I can see the printer
    while browsing, but when trying to print it claims it is 'off line')

    Larry: I've been doing this for a couple of years, currently have three
    systems (mix of Win95 and WfWg) that spool to the fourth (Win95).
    Works great (and our family's sanity depends on it working).

    Here is a little more detail of the problem:
    
    All was working fine with WfWg, upgraded all 3 systems to Win95, still
    OK. The problem started when I upgraded to the latest drivers on the
    Epson web site, including spool manager version 3. It worked OK on 
    the system connected to the Epson via the parallel port, but the other
    2 systems would not print to the printer (said it was offline). I tried
    updating the printer driver on the two remote systems, didn't make a
    difference. 
    
    I know the network is working properly, I can still print to the shared
    'draft' printer without problems. The help file included with the new
    spool manager stated that you must also share the spool directory on
    the host, but that didn't seem to make a difference. 
    
    I saved the old driver diskette, may have to go back to that, but I
    liked the 'automatic' features of the newest driver.
