330.0. "HSM Caching on M/O Drives Questions" by WOTVAX::KOLLODGE () Tue Apr 01 1997 05:26

A couple questions on how to handle M/O drives used as a HSM cache:

We have a 90 day rolling archive of several types of data files. I'm
tyring to set up several M/O drives as a cache to hold the newest 2-4
weeks worth of these files. Currently I have the M/O drives as
permanent caches attached to the shelves in question - i.e.

    SMU SET CACHE $4$JBB287 /BLOCK=0/NOHOLD/NOINTERVAL/BACKUP

Question #1: How can I get the older files (greater than 4 wks, but
less than 90 days) out of the cache?

Question #2: The /NOHOLD qualifier doesn't seem to be working right. I
see many files in the $4$JBBnnn:[HSM_CACHE] directory which are > 90
days old and whose file headers have been deleted from the original
disk. The HSM manual says /NOHOLD "allows the files to be deleted."
Does this mean that we have to delete them from cache manually after
the file headers have been deleted from the original disk?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regarding question 1, HSM has no way of doing this. You would have
to write a command procedure or something to delete the files you
want.

Discussion of question 2 is being taken temporarily offline. The
results will get posted here.
