3244.0. "Excursion & IBM AIX Host Sytem" by NETRIX::"langstaffs@kernel.enet.dec.com" (Stepeh Langstaff) Thu Feb 27 1997 16:25

I am trying to get an X application running using eXcursion v2.1 on an
NT and Win95 machine from an IBM AIX host system. The error message I get is:

rexecd: 0826-604 The login is not correct

This X application runs fine on a Windows 3.1 machine using eXcursion v1.2. I
am
using the same definitions on both the NT/Win95 and 3.1 clients.

I have found references to a similar occurance where the error code is
0826-609
but cannot seem to get anything on the one above.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

On your NT system in a command prompt do:

rexec aixhost -l your-username ls

After you supply a password, do you get a directory listing?

If so, then do:

rexec aixhost -l your-username /usr/bin/X11/xterm -display your-pc:0.0

Are you really really sure you're using the right username/password pair?

Um...rexecd has to be enabled or the users of other systems wouldn't get through.

Unless there's some other type of authentication going on at the rexecd
level, I can't make any other suggestions. I do recall that under some
circumstances SunOS users would have to put the PC's in the Sun's hosts file
(regardless of nameserver use) in order to "authenticate" the PC. I haven't
heard of that with AIX, though.

I can't think of anything on the PC side that would cause this. By using the
rexec command on the NT system we've take eXcursion and its associated
authentication out of the loop.

I tried to get information out of www.ibm.com but they're only giving info
to folks who have support contracts, which I do not have. If you do, I'd
suggest checking their web server to see if there's anything there.

I have managed to fix this problem now - you need to define the NT
Client in the LM Host database and this makes it work fine !

    Cheers for your help
