3654.0. "DECnis and SNMP management" by ATHSPS::PATSALIDIS () Wed May 28 1997 15:44

     A customer is using in his network 2 decnis boxes for bridging
    two remote Lans. Other Decnis and Routeabout boxes perform
    routing for the customers TCP/IP network.
     Recently the customer bought NMS HP Openview and customer asked
    us to enable SNMP on all our routers.
     I believe that for SNMP management we need to have the router
    configured for TCP/IP routing. In our case we can not route TCP/IP
    between the two remote Lans since they have populated stations
    using the same IP network at both remote Lans.
     Is the only solution to redesign the addressing scheme or can we
    use SNMP bridging managment without enabling TCP/IP routing on
    the Decnis?
     Thanks in advance for your help.
     Argyris.

Unfortunately, as the DECNIS has no IP end-node implementation it can't be
managed using SNMP unless you enable IP routing. If you enable IP routing you
can't have the same subnets on multiple interfaces.
