3639.2reduce the Number Of Buffers in the _extra_set fileMARVIN::RIGBYNo such thing as an alpha betaFri May 16 1997 13:3319
I'd guess that the problem is caused by insufficient buffers in the POOL card
for the particular 500 configuration you have. There is a fix in the pipeline
for this to make the code self correct when it discovers the buffers are
overloaded.

In the meantime, to check if this is your problem display the Number Of Free
Buffers attribute of DEVICE UNIT *. If the number on the MEMx-y unit is less
than the Number Of Buffers on the failing card then that is definitely the
problem.

The solution (which is what the code will eventually do automatically) is to
reduce the buffer allocation on each of the device units that do load to free up
enough for the failing card (who's number can also be reduced too).

There are 8 8192 buffers on a 500 pool card (I think), 750 or so are needed for
the MPC leaving slightly less than 2000 each for 4 device units (which I
presume you have a L602 and W622? - two device units per slot)

3639.3Yes your diagnostic is rightATYV01::CHAFFAUT_CFri May 16 1997 13:537
    Hello John,

    I reported your answer to Didier who is on site, and confirms that you
    are right about the source of the problem.
    He will try to correct it the way you told.
    Thanks a lot

3639.4good value was 1800ATYV00::CARRAYROUThu May 22 1997 13:446

    You are right . I checked on site , the good value was 1800 per
    device.

    Thanks
