3569.0. "Any tunning guideline for X25?" by HGOSPS::KENNETH () Tue Mar 11 1997 08:12

Hi,

One of my customer replace all their DEMSAs with DECNIS 500 running X25 with
W618 wan card and DECNIS Version V3.1.

However, the customer found that the performance of DECNIS is slower than
the old DEMSAs. I would like to know is there any tunning service
or guidelines for DECNIS especially X25?

Why DEMSA is faster than DECNIS? Any ways to improve the performance?
Buy a MPC III and upgrade to V4 help?

Thanks for your help in advance.

What is the configuration, what sort X.25 traffic is involved (lots of
virtual circuits, lots of call set up).

One thing that you could do is set the LAPB holdback timer to a
non-zero value (say a 100ms). This will enable the piggy-backing of
    LAPB acknowledgements.

The DECNIS with MPC-1 or MPC-2 should be about 50% better than the
DEMSA in terms of packets per second, MPC-3 is approx 4 to 5 times
    better than MPC-1/MPC-2.

See note 3561.* perhaps you can pick up some ideas.
I had the same complain from a customer of mine, when they first tried
to replace demsa with nis500 mpc-II.
Now we are doing some test in their lab to verify the nis mpc-III
with software 4.0 as replacement of demsa.

I realized that until you let the x25 in the nis to manage the eventual
    overload the nis is slow.

If you let decnet in the nis to manage the overload , the nis reacts in
    a better way.
