3212.0. "defba power problem" by CHEFS::KENNEDYE (FROM WHITLEY BAY TO WC1) Mon Jan 29 1996 14:02

We are seeing a number of power related problems with DEFBA's
(DECswitch 900EF) connected to DEChub 900's.
The main problem is that the DEFBA will loose power
intermittently, requiring a reseat to restore the module.
This can also hang the hub.
5 DEFBA's have now been replaced in the last month.
Is there a known power problem with these modules?

For your information, the failing DEFBA's are a mixture of
rev D01 & E01,and the DEChub is firmware v3.1.0 running
    HUBwatch v4.0.1.

Hi -

I can't speak for DEFBA hardware, but Hubwatch V4.0.1 is built
to run with DEChub V4.0.x. DECswitch900 management
is one of the things that is a lot more reliable in DEChub V4.

Ideally, you should upgrade all the way - DEChub V4.1.1,
Hubwatch V4.1-x (check note 2 for the flavor appropriate to
your platform). This will pick up some power fixes, too.
The DECswitch 900 should be at version V1.5.2.

    RE: .0
From a hardware perspective, there are no known power problems with
the 900EF that I know of. Now in order for us to answer your question,
you will have to be a bit more helpful and give us some specifics as
to what you see....describe to us what the EF LED's look like when
it is running normally, then describe them just before the power
problem. Oh and please, don't just say something like "the left hand
led is blinking"....etc. We can't tell from a description like that
whether the module is mounted vertically in a hub, or mounted
horizontally in a docking station. Use the descriptions of the leds
referenced in the 900EF installation guide, and if you don't have
a copy of it, you can get a copy from the NPB internal web page,
and can also copy it from the following pointer
    TNPUBS::DSA1:[PUBLIC.ONEHUB]DECSW900EF_INS_V1_5_EK-DEFBA-IN.PS;4

The installation guide does have some useful information.
Also like Dotsie said, it would also be prudent to upgrade all around
    on the revs you mentioned.

    thanks,
    Bob
