3077.0. "MAM load & Serial line" by ATYISA::CARRAYROU () Mon Dec 18 1995 10:42

    The customer erase the firmware
I must reload the firmware in a MAM ( HUB900 Managment MOdule )

It seems the MAM send a bootp request over the serial line .
Is that true ??? I don't show this information in the doc.

I configure my workstation with SLIP on TTA2:

But a serial line isn't a broadcast network and the MAM haven't a MAC
    address .
I don't understand how the mam get the IP address in this configuration .

    Thanks
    Didier

Hi -

It must be Monday.

How did your customer "erase" the firmware? I don't recall that
being one of our menu choices!

Nonetheless, if you are seeing BOOTP requests go over the MAM's
OBM port, the firmware is indeed bad - a CRC check made during
cold start is failing.

This BOOTP request is not asking for an IP address (and there is
no image alive to accept it, anyway.) What you can do with it
is direct your TFTP server to start transferring an image.

>tftp -p <dhhub_image_name.bin> <ip_address> mam_bin image

where dhhub_image_name.bin is the name of the image file you
want to download, and ip_address is the IP address of the
SLIP connection - your PC, or perhaps a terminal server that
is configured for a SLIP connection.

The LCD should show the progress of your downline load as a
count of TFTP blocks received. When the image is complete,
it will be checked and blasted to flash in the same manner
as a normal downline load. After the blasting is complete
(takes a couple of minutes), self test will execute and the
MAM image will start up. At this point, you will need to
use the Setup Menu on a console to configure your hub's
own IP address and other info.

3077.2and set the SLIP line to 9600 bpsNETCAD::MILLBRANDTanswer mamTue Dec 19 1995 00:2612
It so happens I had the "opportunity" to try this myself
this evening. Here's more info:

The SLIP connection has to be running at 9600bps when
the hub has put itself into Sending BOOTP Request mode,
and the loading alone takes 11 minutes, plus the flash
blast.

(There's a jumper force mode engineering uses in the lab
- don't try this at home - that runs at 38400.)
