951.0. "Lost DB90 stats" by GLDOA::HOLZER () Mon May 02 1994 20:51

    Hi;
I searched the ethernet conference and this one with no luck. Here's
    my question --

My customer has 4 Decbridge 90's. He is running Hubwatch for Windows
V2.0. Two of his DB90's are V2.0 and the other two are V1.14. The V2.0
DB90's respond fine to Hubwatch. The V1.14 DB90's respond but do not
show any bridge statistics to HUbwatch. They will show statistics if
you connect with NCP and do show bridge. We tried upgrading FPROM to
V3.1 but it made no difference. Will we have to buy him new DB90's
to upgrade the bridge rev, or are we going down a rathole, or ?????

I don't have the Decagent version but can get it if needed. I do know
he can move the bridges from hub to hub and the "no statistics" bug
    follows the V1.14 bridges.

V1.14 of the DB90 does not do RBMS and cannot ever be managed via
HUBwatch via the DECagent 90 SNMP proxy. You must upgrade to V3.1.

Sorry for the confusion. Let me restate this mess.

All four DB90's have been upgraded to 3.1 FProm level. However 2 are
at boot rom v1.14 and 2 are at boot rom 2.0 . Flash upgrade does not
affect boot rom revision. The two bridges at boot rev 1.14 will not
show statistics to Hubwatch but will show stats to NCP. The two
bridges at 2.0 will show stats to Hubwatch and NCP.

We are trying to determine if this is an aberration, if there is an
upgrade path for the boot rom level, or do we need to buy the
customer two new bridges thru logistics?

    Any ideas???

The boot ROM version of the bridges indicate that you have two bridges with V1
hardware and two with V2 hardware (new gate array). Both versions are fine.
It's the firmware (FPROM) version that is critical, and you said you are at
V3.1. This is fine also.

Please give the version of the DECagent 90 firmware you are running. Since
HUBwatch queries the DECagent for the statistical data you say is missing, this
is a crucial piece of information.

It might also be useful to give a brief description of the network configuration
that these four bridges are in, stating where the DECagent is located and
how/where the network management station is connected to the network.

The Decagent 90 is at rev v1.0 .

I'll try to describe the configuration, but watch out, this might be messy.

There are 4 Dechub 90's and one Dechub 900. The Dechub 900 has a twisted pair
repeater with TP links to 4 Anixter-supplied TP-to-fiber MAU's. Two of these
fiber links go to Decbridge 90FL's in two of the 90 hubs. These two bridges
have the V2.0 Fproms.

The other two fiber links go to two Anixter-supplied fiber-to-thinwire MAU's
which attach to the front thinwire port of two Decbridge 90's in the other
two 90 hubs. These bridges have the v1.14 Fproms.

The Decagent 90 is currently in one of the Dechub 90's handled by a Decbridge
90. It has been tried in all four hubs. The Hubwatch station is on a thinwire
segment from a 90C thinwire repeater in the same hub as the Decagent 90.

The two DB90's have the 'no stats' problem. The DB90FL's work ok.

We are going to upgrade the Decagent to v1.1 and warn the customer to do a
reset to default when done. Any other suggestions if that doesn't fix it??

What else is in the hubs with the problem bridges?
