1422.0. "DECbridge 900MX FDDI config problem ?" by HGOVC::SIUKEUNGLEE () Tue Sep 13 1994 16:27

Hello,

I have a problem to config the DEChub900 interconnected using two
DECbridge 900MX FDDI port. The configuration diagram as follows;

Physical Connection:
--------------------

        -------------------                     ---------------------

           DECHUB 900                              DECHUB 900

Hardware Descr.

Hub A:                          Hub B:
Slot 7: DECrepeater 900TM(DRA)  Slot 7: DECserver 900TM(DSB)
Slot 8: DECbridge 900MX(DBA)    Slot 8: DECbridge 900MX(DBB)

IP address: (netmask 255.255.0.0)
VAX  : 10.192.60.9
Hub A: 10.192.60.2  (Firmware Ver 3.0)
Hub B: 10.192.60.6  (Firmware Ver 3.0)
DRA  : 10.192.60.3
DBA  : 10.192.60.4
DSB  : 10.192.60.7
DBB  : 10.192.60.8 ( Config from download)

The VAX runing UCX and HUBwatch Ver 3.0 for VMS.

Q1) Is the about config valid ? If not, why?

Q2) I was try to use the HUBwatch to manager the both DECHUB 900 (Hub A & B).
    I can show and manager all the module in Hub A. I have configure the
    DECbridge 900MX port 3 connected to the DEChub 900 blackplane Thinwire
    ethernet. Then I remove the DRA from Hub_A and plug in HUB_B, also set the
    DBB port 3 connected to blackplane Thinwire ethernet. Now I return DRA to
    HUB_A. The both DECbridge LED seem to be OK. When I want to use the HUBwatch
    to manager the HUB_B through FDDI, the HUBwatch prompt me "retry and agent
    not reponse". In UCX, I try to ping the DBB through FDDI, its alive.
    But ping the HUB_B is not work, why?

Q3) How can I fix it ?

Q4) What is the lastest firmware ver, of DECbridge 900MX? Are the problem
    relative to it ? Where are the pointer ?

Any suggestion are welcome!!!

Thank You!

    I think you need a repeater in each hub that you want to manage, or can
    the bridge do the redirect?

1422.2Should work but don't move modules.CGOS01::DMARLOWEHave you been HUBbed lately?Thu Sep 15 1994 16:3832
> Q1) Is the about config valid ? If not, why?

    Yes, if port 3 DB 900MX and the DR 900TM and DS 900TM are all connected
    to the thinwire.

    Also for easy of the config, IP services should be supplied by the
    DB 900MX (DECswitch 900EF).

> Q2) I was try to use the HUBwatch to manager the both DECHUB 900 (Hub A & B).
    I can show and manager all the module in Hub A. I have configure the
    DECbridge 900MX port 3 connected to the DEChub 900 blackplane Thinwire
    ethernet. Then I remove the DRA from Hub_A and plug in HUB_B, also
    set the DBB port 3 connected to blackplane Thinwire ethernet. Now I
    return DRA to HUB_A.

    You should not remove any modules while the hub is powered. As soon
    as you do, the hub manager deletes the module and all its
    configuration. If the DR 900TM is supplying IP services then that
    will be lost when its removed from the hub.

    Set both the DB 900MX's to supply IP services to the hubs and only
    an IP address in the hubs and DS 900TM. Connect the management
    station to one of the UTP ports on the DB 900MX if you must move
    the DR 900TM around but you should not be moving modules around.

    I have a configuration not unlike yours and have no trouble moving
    from hub to hub. But everything is fixed as they are in production,
    and the only moving is repatching a user from one DR 900TM to another.

    Hello,

    It work now, I think the major problem is in UCX. It cann't not update
    the arp table so ping not work. Restart UCX ok!

    Thank !
