3776.0. "SPECTRUM to launch clearVISN MC MGr" by JULIET::capitn::HARRIS_MA (Sales Executive II) Tue Aug 06 1996 19:07

Is there any problems that are foreseen when the UNIX versions of
clearVISN MC Mgr come out of running on the same platform and launched
by Cabletron's SPECTRUM tool? I am told Spectrum runs on UNIX of some
kind and the customer, wants to know if clearVISN will *ever* be
    launchable from Spectrum?

    Comments?

following unix platforms are supported from cabletron's spectrum:

			Sun SPARCsystem
			SGI
			DEC
			IBM

Ones clearVISN MC Mgr is availible on DUNIX it should be no big deal to
'launch' MC mgr from spectrum.

How would you/customer define 'launch' exactly ?
Have you tried to talk about Polycenter Netview on Dunix ?

3776.2No plansSTEVEV::VINGERHOETWed Aug 07 1996 12:337
There are no plans to officially support this. I am not sure how difficult
it is to get this to work.

Please contact our Product Mgr, Jack Forrest (NAC::FORREST), if you believe
this is a big business opportunity.

3776.3Slightly on the frustrated side, but looking for BRIGHT SIDE!JULIET::yosmte::HARRIS_MASales Executive IIWed Aug 07 1996 17:4414
    RE: -1

Not worth my time for this particular one customer. I always assume
that LKG folks pay attention to the industry's trends, marketshare,
etc. SPECTRUM is currently listed as one of the TOP THREE network
management platforms in the world for generalized network management.
(I think Netview and OpenView are the other two.) I believe Dataquest
gave it greater than 20% marketshare.

It would be nice if we built our product to map to at least the top few
platforms.... the ones with a BIG chuck of the customer based wrapped
    up at least.
