3756.0. "DECconcentrator 900 question ?" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Tue Jul 30 1996 07:36

A remote site engineer says he is connecting a DEFEA to a DC900??
which he says has 14 ports altogether - 12 ports has ST connectors and 2 ports
have MIC connectors. I only know of 2 types of FDDI concentrators that fit in
a DH900 Multiswitch - the DC900TH and the DC900MX neither of them have 12 ST
connectors and 2 MIC connectors. So what is this module.

Anyway this engineer has the following problem:
	------------------------------------------------

Also posted in MIKASA notes conference and FDDI notes conference:
-------------------------------------------------------------------

A remote site engineer reports the following FDDI problem on a new
ASRV1000A install.

As soon as he connects this node (using DEFEA SAS) to an FDDI ring
he gets a lot of "RING INITS RECEIVED" counts (under NCP) logged against other
systems (4 x ASRV1000 Mikasa systems). This happens even when the ASRV1000A
is sitting at the >>> console mode prompt or if the ASRV1000A has OpenVMS
booted with DECnet Phase IV running. If he has the system running DECnet then
this system also logs RING INIT RECEIVED counts just like other systems.

The network runs very very very slow until the ASRV1000A is disconnected
from the ring. Engineer has used another DEFEA, another cable and another port
on the DECconcentrator 900 and also tried a DECconcentrator 500 which happens to
be on the same FDDI ring as the DC900.

We both discussed and we have decided to change the ASRV1000A's mother
board. There is no other EISA board on the system. There are two other PCI
boards on this system, but the fault happens even if both these PCI boards are
removed from the system.

Alphonse,

Not an answer, but are you sure they are not SC connectors, there is a DC900FH
which has 12 SC connectors on it:

DECconcentrator 900FH, 12 fixed MMF SC connector DEFHM-MX
front panel ports, with no ModPMDs installed

   DECconcentrator 900FH, 14 total MMF ports, DEFHM-MM
   12 connector front panel ports
   and 2 factory-installed ANSI
   multimode ModPMDs (2 x DEFXM-AA)
