3755.0. "Firmware revisions." by NETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com" (Steven Freke) Mon Jul 29 1996 17:06

Folks
I just require a sanity check here. I have a customer who believes he is
running with V4.2 on his backplane, and V1.6.1 on his DECswitch 900EF. He said
that he was supplied this when he purchased Hubwatch V4.0.1.

What are the latest versions of Firmware shipped with Clearvisn if any.

Are these versions mentioned above, available anywhere?

Any help greatly appreciated.

There is a V4.2 of the hub, but last I heard it had not completed
an ECO process with SSB...a process that seems to take weeks.
Thus it exists but is not announced yet, because you can't order
it. Nonetheless, I think it is on the net on ftp.digital.com directory,
on the NPB web page under hub firmware, and on the clearVISN V5.0 CDrom
release. (In the future we intend to start the release process a couple
of months before we actually have anything releasable.)

Here is what V4.2 contains over V4.1.1. This will be posted in
the release annoucement note when everything is official.

- Handling of failed power supplies.
V4.1.1 added automatic failover to battery backup in
the event of loss of AC power, and a switch back to
use of the AC source when AC power was restored.
Configurations without battery backup, however, were not
handled correctly when individual power supplies failed.
In V4.2, when power modules fail, the Hub Manager will
reallocate the remaining power to hub modules in the
manner described in the DEChub 900 MultiSwitch Owner's
Manual, Chapter 5, entitled "Hub Power System."

- Handling of backplane LAN interconnections.
The Hub Manager can lose its current knowledge of all the
LAN connections on its backplane when a hub module resets
while the Hub Manager is handling the addition or removal
of a connection. In V4.1, resetting the Hub Manager
restores the connections. V4.2 will prevent the loss of
            connections from occurring.
3755.2Is it supportedNETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com"Steven FrekeMon Jul 29 1996 19:4814
Thanks for the reply.

This leads me on to the next question. As this is unofficial, is it offically
supported?
And I guess the same rules apply, only upgrade your hub when you have upgraded
you management station, (Clearvisn).
The reason I ask is because my customer is running with Hubwatch V4, and has in
effect upgraded his hub to a higher version, and nothing, I mean nothing is
working.

Thanks for the help so, far, I don't mean to badger.

If it's on the NPB web page or in the ftp.digital.com area,
it is official, and officially supported.
