3652.0. "Portswitch DISPLAY Question" by PRIVAT::OTTO (getting better all the time) Mon Jun 24 1996 15:09

Hello,

I have a question /problem with displaying names of Port groups LAN
Segments.

When I start HUBwatch and select a portswitch900FP I get the
REPEATER SUMMARY window.

Under the "Port Table"
	     LAN/Group

I expect to see the IMB Segment's Name and Repeater Group but the boxes
there are empty.

When I open the Portswitch Window I can set the Group's new names, but I
don't see them in the REPEATER SUMMARY window.

Is this a bug /ommision or will this be fixed in a future release ?
Or am I making an error ??

Thanks

OTTO

    Otto,

The history of the LAN/Group field is that it has existed in an
unimplemented state for a long while now (at least V3.1 I believe).
In V4.0 the fields were implemented, but performance was so slow
that it was turned off. The reason for the slow performance is that
several MIB tables must be pulled in order to derive the
information. These fields are present on most of the Repeater
        Views.

Hello Bob,

thank You very much for this answer.

You explain what the story is with these fields, but this leads to the question
whether this will ever be implemented, or whether this Fields will disapear
in a future Version of HUBWATCH/MULTIchassismanager. (I can see these fields
at least Version x1016 of CLEARvisn) Customers ask for the contents of this fields,
so removing them (because it is so complicated/performance demanding to retrieve
the info) would not give them a chance to ask.

Again thanks

    Otto,

Not sure at this point whether the fields will be implemented or
will be removed. One possibility is to conditionalize these
fields (ie we'll get them for you if you ask but it'll be slow).
Currently MCM doesn't have this type of user customization.

    Regards,
    Bob
