3619.0. "I promised I looked!" by DECWET::WHITE (Surfin' with the Alien) Wed Jun 12 1996 20:43

I promised that I looked...but:

I'm looking for the clearVISN bits and the latest most
stable router software for a DECswitch EF.

I am interested in doing a proof of concept in an effort to
replace a DECnis with a DECswitch.

I currently have two DECswitch 900ef's on my net. The DECnis is running
RIP and routing 4 subnets on a fiber ring on a network with a bunch
of ethernet bridges hanging off of the ring.

It appears that I can but if you guys could confirm....Can my DECswitch
route several subnets at once? You know, can I assign 4 IP addresses to
the switch and route 4 subnets?

Anyway...would greatly appreciate some help/info.

    Steve -

The DECswitch 900EF can run the common router code (i.e. the router
code that all of the new generation of routing products run) but it's
performance is in the single ethernet range (from what I recall) i.e.
    the 14-20Kpps.

If you don't need a high performing router, you could utilize it. If
you do, you should stick with the DECnis.

If you need the kit, EMAIL your address to me at "Jon Danzak@PTO" and I'll loan you the
    CD and docs.

Most of the "can the router software do that" type discussions happen
in the irocz::common_brouters notesfile. That's why you didn't see it.
As for the Clearvisn bits, they should be around here somewhere...
