3570.0. "clearVISN V1.0 Router Manager : How to recover device database...." by IAMOSI::LEUNG (Down under.....) Fri May 31 1996 05:37

WIN95

While running the above, I was forced to reboot the PC because of an unrelated
hardware (keyboard) problem on the PC.
Now, when I start the program, the "show devices" window is blank and when I try
to add a new device, I get the message :

Device database was corrupted, please contact technical support.

Where are the files stored?
Are they in the subdirectory \btrieve?
Any means of recovering the device database, or should I just delete these files
and let the program re-create them?

    Hello,

Another report of this same problem after re-installing ClearVISN
    on WIN95.

Anyone know what database is corrupted and how to recover it without
    having to re-install again?

    Thanks,
Maria (CSC technical support that doesn't have a clue.)

Thanks to the pointer to the note. Reinstalling took care of the
immediate problem, however what if the customer does not want to
    loose the current database?

Can anyone explain what is actually getting corrupted in the
    \clearvis\btrieve directory?

    Regards, Maria

We talked to StonyBrook about this. If you get this corruption,
you can close Router Manager and delete all the .BTF files in
\clearVIS\btrieve . It gets you around avoiding reinstalling
but that is about it. StonyBrook is not sure what is causing this.

3570.7Recommendation for router manager data corruptionNPSS::LIZOTTENetwork Product SupportFri Jan 24 1997 14:0521
An IPMT escalation CFS.46366 recommended the following steps be taken
    to correct for this error.

The Router Manager database files are contained in the various *.BTV
files found in the \clearVIS\btrieve directory on Windows 95 or Windows NT
systems. These database files can be restored from a backup of the
system when database corruption occurs. If a system backup, prior to the
corruption error occuring is not available, the *.btv files can be deleted.
However, the prior router manager database is lost.

The database corruption error occuring with the Clearvisn Router
Manager can be corrected with the following steps:

     1) Stop the Router manager.
     2) Rename or delete ONLY the \clearVIS\btrieve\*.btv files.
     3) There should be four *.ddf and six *.rpt files remaining in the
            \btrieve directory.
     4) Start the Router manager. New database files are created.
     5) Re-enter new device information in the router manager database.
     6) Create a backup of the \btrieve directory.
