3398.0. "Gigaswitch management again..." by CHEFS::PADDICK (Michael Paddick - BRS Bristol, UK) Mon Mar 25 1996 14:57

    Hello,

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I have spent hours
looking through this and the Gigaswitch conference...

Can anyone clarify the situation with Hubwatch for Windows (4.1.1)
    and Gigaswitch management for me?

I need to set up several G-Switches for Spanning Tree parameters such
as root priority, port cost etc. I also need to change S ports to
    M ports.

As far as I know, none of the above is manageable under Hubwatch, but I
    would like to have confirmation.

On a further note, if Hubwatch can't do the above, I'm thinking of
using 'Manageworks' as a MIB browser on my prtable PC. Has anybody
got any experience of using this. In particular to manage the Gigaswitch?

    Thank ewe,

    Meic.

    Meic,

HUBwatch for Windows V4.1.1 can set root priority and port cost
via the Switch Summary View. It cannot set any other STP
parameters, nor can it set m-port enable.

V5.0 will allow you to set m-port enable. It will also allow you
to set Bridge Hello Time, Bridge Max Age, Bridge Forward Delay,
No Frame Interval, Aging Time, and Short Aging Time.

    Regards,
    Bob
3398.2Recommended route for STP controls etc.?CHEFS::HARVEYBaldly going into the unknown...Wed Mar 27 1996 15:466
If it required to switch the Spanning Tree off then it seems necessary to
revert to "walking the MIB".... Apart from use of the MIBs on other
management platforms which is the recommended (Digital) tool(s) for doing
this ? ManageWORKS ? (Or is that ServerWORKS ?).....
