3125.0. "DECHUB 900 ISSUES..NEED ANSWERS" by OTOOA::MEVANS () Fri Jan 05 1996 18:35

    Gooday..

I am writing this in concern to the issues I have seen locally on a
hospital site with 29 Dechub 900's, running since the summer of 95.
First problem we encountered was a hub burnt at the AC input. Checking
into this there was a series of hubs starting at AS425XXXXX which were
suspect to this problem. The fix is to replace the power supply
backplane module,,,so where is this fix or FCO??

Now another problem has come to light with seating of full height
modules not making good contact to the backplane due to a combination
of heat and weight. Again there is a fix in the form of a backplane
reinforcement kit,,,where is it?? The module that seems most suspect
is the 900FP module which will reset itself and either comes back or
has to be manually reseated. Moving or replacing the module makes no
    difference.

Being a large install we need to get these issues resolved as locally
    this could become high focus.

3125.1Seen the same...hub burnedPTOJJD::DANZAKMon Jan 08 1996 22:5614
We just had a hub burn up at a customer (i.e. smoke, modules melted,
etc.) We've sent it back to Michelle Bigelow for evaluation.

With some rev A0x hubs there was a 'hub stiffener' problem. These were
metal inserts put into the hub to 'stiffen' the backplane. There was
also a restraining bar on the top of the hub mounting brackets that
prevented flexion. I think that this was missing on earlier hubs.

So, hope that helps. Nat Rounds or Bob Battersby may have more info on
    both.

    Regards,

    GOODAY..

Thanks for the info and yes I have heard there is a fix to stiffen the
backplane but what is it and how do I get it.

As per my note to expand.... all 29 hubs that are installed fall into
the suspect range for the burning backplane modules, but is that the
same range that require the stiffeners???

So is there an annnounced ECO?? FCO???
3125.3Your note was forwarded to Support folks here at LKG...NETCAD::BATTERSBYTue Jan 09 1996 15:077
    RE: .0
I've forwarded your base note to the NPSS support folks, and
asked that they have someone get in touch with you with the
appropriate info on how to help you resolve your customers issues
    with their HUBs.

Add this problem too. I got a installed base of 24 Dechub 900. They all
ran pretty good until last month. So far I have replaced two backplanes
and an array of modules and power supplies. It seems we did not have
that many problems till the H7894 was released.
3125.6More on New Style Power SuppliesCSC32::BLACKMERRalph Blackmer - Mission Critical Support TeamThu Jan 11 1996 17:4217
I just returned from a site visit with a Mission Critical customer who has
replaced 5 of the new style power supplies in the past 4 weeks on "1" of their
DEChub900s. They are very concerned as a failure in just this hub, brings down a
better part of their production facility.

They have already replaced a hub backplane too. I will post details on revisions
but this is becoming "very visible" of late.

Are there issues with the new style power supplies? I also read about the
possible ECO/FCO to "firm up" the backplane in the hubs? Can I audit the
customer hubs and see what the current status is on installed hardware to
prevent flex in these? I would believe they do not have the necessary equipment
in place to prevent this.
