| I spoke with a person at Frontier. There is a patch to work around the
problem.
Using a Microsoft stack applications do not have access to icmp
information (no API I guess). So Frontier has a patch that skips the
ping during the test and just does the SNMP gets. The pop up window
will state that the ping is not supported ( i would have benn more
specific on the statement stating that the stack won't allow the ping -
saying it's not supported may lead the user to think the probe doesn't
support the ping).
anyway, the patch is located at ftp.frontier.com via anonymous ftp.
the directory is /pub/client_3.3_9450 The name of the file is
pat9450.exe
The file is a self extracting file. run it on the system and it
expands to three files: install.bat, nsman.exe and pingoff. The
install.bat only works if you installed probewatch in \nshome so if
you're using probewatch 3.3 the default was \probew
copy the nsman.exe file to \probew\bin
copy the pingoff file to \probew\usr
no need to restart the program... I had probewatch running when I added
the patch and it fixed the problem when I tested the probes...

rick
there's some other patch files in the same directory for reports and
netbios decode, but they wouldn't tell me what they fixed...
