3103.0. "HUBwatch crashes when displaying to Motif T1.2-4" by FATSYS::ANDY (Andy Belsey (823) 3200) Wed Dec 27 1995 13:03

Hi,

	I upgraded my Flamingo to Motif T1.2-4 running the new CDE interface.
I now can't get HUBwatch to run when displaying to this node (HUBwatch
executes on other nodes on the network). I have tried V3.1 for VAX and V4.1.1
for Digital UNIX but when the display is set to my workstation with Motif
T1.2-4, HUBwatch crashes thus:

 I thought that the new Motif was at fault, so I tried displaying to a PC
running Linux and XFree86 V1.3.2 (which is an implementation of the X11R6
server). I get exactly the same crash as with the new Motif. It runs fine when
displaying to OpenVMS nodes running Motif V1.2-3 (both Alpha and VAX) and
Alpha running Motif V1.2-3.

 It seems that the intrinsics library (Xt) is getting very upset about a
String to Pointer conversion somewhere in the code. I thought at first that
Motif V1.2-4 implemented the X11R6 code but, according to the release notes,
it implements the X11R5 code just like Motif V1.2-3. I have no other display
problems to this machine with any other applications. Any ideas?

I get the same crash with the latest version of the FT for OpenVMS (bit more
info here on the module causing the crash as it's been linked with traceback):

3103.2Still broken...FATSYS::ANDYAndy Belsey (823) 3200Wed Apr 24 1996 12:3710
HUBwatch V4.1 is still broken when displaying on the SSB release of Motif
V1.2-4. It accvio's on the OpenVMS version and seg faults on the UNIX version.
It displays fine on Motif V1.2-3 (both OpenVMS and UNIX) and Motif V2.0 (X11R6)
on Linux.

 People are going to be upset when they upgrade and find that this application
is no longer available to them...
