3072.0. "Maintenance Guide for DS900MS???" by BERFS4::NORD () Fri Dec 15 1995 15:45

    Hi you,

    is there any documantation about all the internal cables, modules and
    all the other things of the backplane of the DEChub900MS?

    I found a part listing about all the module in the backplane, but ther
    is no drawing how to connect all these parts together.

    We've had some problems at customer side and the 128-pin-distribution
    has a short circuit as we insert a module.

    Is there any maintenance guide, where I can look to find out, what to
    order at logistic to solf the problem???

    Many thanks in advance

3072.1No FRU's make up the HUB other than the MAM module..NETCAD::BATTERSBYFri Dec 15 1995 15:5011
    I don't believe that other than the MAM module, that there were
    intended to be any other FRU's (field replaceble units), that
    make up the components of the HUB. Thus, if there is a problem
    with an internal cable, or internal modules, or other internal
    workings of the HUB, that it is returned or exchanged for another
    one. That being the case I believe, one won't find any documents
    for field use on reparing the HUB inner workings. These types of
    repairs were intended to be done in a manufacturing plant that
    builds the product.

3072.2some german mistakeBERFS4::NORDFri Dec 15 1995 15:5211

    Another "Hi you",

    I've to learn english or to look at my monitor, 'cause there are some
    mistakes, I've done:

    "ther" meens "there", and "solf" meens "solve", sorry about but in
    Germany it's 07:00 p.m. and I'm working since 07:00 a.m. (like you do!)

    Thanks
3072.3Perhaps the support group can help verify this for sure...NETCAD::BATTERSBYFri Dec 15 1995 15:538
    >> workings of the HUB, that it is returned or exchanged for another
    >> one.

    What I meant here is that the whole hub is returned if it is determined
    that it is a component other than the MAM module. EVen with the MAM
    module, I'm not certain if this is an "official" FRU part.

3072.4first answer !!!BERFS4::NORDFri Dec 15 1995 16:0516

    Thanks Bob for your answer,

    but I think we have to replace one or another module and I don't know
    what I've to order, 'cause I'm not shure what to change. The best thing
    I know, is a exploding drawing, to know what is in the backplane and
    what this module is doing.

    I opened the the backside of the DH900 and I found some things, where
    is no documentation and where is nobody, who can help me, but I've to
    replace the rigth thing.

    Many thanks for your answer

3072.5Just the MAM, manPTOJJD::DANZAKTue Dec 19 1995 00:2919
    I think what bob is trying to say is....

    Other than the module at the top of the hub behind the plastic case
    (the one with the LCD display) there is NOTHING to take apart or should
    be taken apart in the field. (i.e. you should NEVER have to take off
    the hub back etc. except to uprev an A01 hub with stiffeners)

    You just pop off the front plastic, take off the two screws at the top,
    unplug the bottom connectors and slip in the new MAM.

    The backplane simply has some capacitors and resistors (all triple
    redundant) and if it failes, you just get a new one.

    (It's lots cheaper doing it that way and causes us field types to work
    less hours....!)

    (grin)
