3056.0. "HUBwatch & re-Configuration ??" by EVOA00::VISTA (Renato VISTA/MCS/NS France/ZTO) Mon Dec 11 1995 13:35

    Hi,

    Is there any plan to provide our Customers a HUBwatch release that
    allows DEChub family re-configuration tasks from scratch ??

    If so, when and on which platform (Digital UNIX, VMS, Windows) ?

    Than you for your replies.

Renato,

What is a re-configuration task?

3056.2Customer definition & expectations...EVOA00::VISTARenato VISTA/MCS/NS France/ZTOTue Dec 12 1995 08:1221

    Hi Tom,

    In the Customer mind, and consequently in my own mine, the french
    expression "re-configuration" task, means to apply an HUBWatch/SNMP
    command file to a given remote DEChub family SNMP agent, ie assigning
    modules to backplane channels, defining port assignment (Bridge, FDDI
    technologies), setting filters (Ethernet Security features,
    STP/Bridging filters...)...

    Of course, some basic tasks have to be done via serial console (ie IP
    address, SNMP COmmunities, IP Services assignment) ; this would be
    possible via usage of Terminal Servers (LAT or TELNET transport of
    serial signals) ; then a complete SNMP configuration would be
    appreciated as faster as possible... in order to take in account the
    local customer operating constraints.

    Any opinion about such a need ?
    Renato

3056.3clearVISN Resilience should do it.SLINK::HOODMy God, what have I done to my spleen?Tue Dec 12 1995 13:2821
What you're describing is part of the set of problems clearVISN Resilience
solves. Shipping soon (really, really, *really* soon) for Windows.

As an example, with Resilience, you can read the set of protocol filters
from a switch, and copy the set to other switches.

You can perform a backup of all supported modules in your hub. Then if you
need to replace a module, just do a restore for that module.

Supported modules in clearVISN Resilience V1.0 are:
	- DEChub 900 backplane
	- DECbridge/DECswitch/PEswitch 900 modules (not including routers)
	- DECrepeater/PORTswitch 900 Ethernet modules
	- DECconcentrator 900 FDDI modules
	- DECmau 900/DECrepeater 900 token ring modules

For pricing and delivery and SPD and good times, call Jack NAC::Forrest, the
product manager.

3056.4OK. What about FT kit (WINDOWS...and D.UNIX) ??EVOA00::VISTARenato VISTA/MCS/NS France/ZTOTue Dec 12 1995 15:3113

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for your reply.

    So, clearVISN Resilience V1.0/WINDOWS will be shipped soon. Very good.
    Is there any Field Test available on EASYnet ?

    Further, is there any Digital UNIX kit planned or/and available for
    testing ?

You can ftp an older X version of it from slink.dechub.lkg.dec.com in
the resilx15 subdirectory.

Note 2876.* gives directions and caveats.

3056.7file protection problem...EVOA00::VISTARenato VISTA/MCS/NS France/ZTOWed Dec 13 1995 06:1512

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for the network pointer.

    I've met an error message, "insufficient privilege or file protection
    violation" on <.resilX%%> directories... Is it possible to grant read
    operations ?

    Thank you.
