3010.0. "Memory Usage by distributed IP stack software" by DAVIDF::FOX (David B. Fox -- DTN 285-2091) Mon Nov 27 1995 19:28

I've got HUBwatch V4.1.1 running now with the IP stack software that is
distributed with the kit. The resulting arrangement only leaves me about 370k
bytes free. This doesn't allow me to "EDIT LIST..." in the HUBloader, for
example. HUBloader complains that the PIF file is requiring too much memory.
I've tried changing the value but that didn't work.

I'm wondering if there is some way that a chunk of the components could be
loaded into high memory so that more conventional is available. Suggestions?
Should I be asking this in one of the Pathworks conferences? Pointer and note
number, if any, gladly accepted!

	Thanks!

3010.1Installation manual/check DOS=HIGH,UMBNETCAD::WAGNERCOFFILTue Nov 28 1995 12:0512
There are good examples of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS in the HUBwatch
Installation and Configuration manual. Look in this conference for pointers.

One sure saver... Make sure in your CONFIG.SYS that DOS=HIGH,UMB appears
at the top of the file(actually before the DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS and
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE). If the DOS line does not occur before these
lines you will not be able to take advantage of the Upper Memory Blocks
between 640K and 1meg. Then you can start loading other components in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT high with the LH or LOADHIGH command and/or in CONFIG.SYS
high with the DEVICEHIGH command.

3010.2Give it some EMSLEMAN::PAIVAHawkeye - Network Support @GEOMon Dec 04 1995 07:058
    The PATHWORKS stack also likes ExPANded (EMS) memory
    (DEVICE=...\EMM386.EXE 2048 RAM) for giving it 2MB. You'll then
    probably have to try out some EMSLOAD before the commands in the
    STRTNDIS.BAT.

    Hope this helps!

3010.3Not much memory freed up...DAVIDF::FOXDavid B. Fox -- DTN 285-2091Mon Jan 15 1996 17:209
    Back to my memory problems...

    I made the suggested changes and still only have 371kbytes available.
    I'm going to try playing with STRTNDIS.BAT to get things to load high.
    What is the difference between LOADHIGH and EMSLOAD? Is there
    documentation anywhere on EMSLOAD?

    	Thanks!
