2979.0. "Replacement for DEREN-AA ?" by VAXRIO::HENRIQUE () Tue Nov 14 1995 18:12

    Hi,

    Customer has a DEREN-AA ( AUI to AUI, Decrepeater 200)
    interconnecting two backbones (thickwire) and would like
    to buy another one but it is not sold anymore.
    Could someone please tell me what is the replacement for DEREN-AA ?

    Thanks for your reply.

    He could either buy a DECswitch 900EE, DECswitch 900EF or 2 DECrepeater
    90T-16 with the AUI Multistack on each backbone with a 10BaseT x-over
    cable connecting the two of them.

    I suspect other people can come up with more variations...

    ok. Thanks for hints.

2979.3DECrepeater 900GM & DEChub ONENETCAD::PAGLIARORich Pagliaro, Networks BU, HPNWed Nov 15 1995 20:1810
    A DECrepeater 900GM configured in a DEChub ONE docking station offers 2
    AUI repeater ports (one on the front bezel and one on the docking
    station), and 24 10Base-T repeater ports (using 2 50-pin TELCO
    connectors).

    This is cheaper than buying a DECswitch, I would suspect, and is
    cleaner than daisy chaining 2 DECrepeater 90T-16s. That is, it results
    in only one repeater hop instead of two.

2979.4Would the 90FS do it ? PTOJJD::DANZAKThu Nov 16 1995 10:4910
    *IF* a DECrepeater 90FS supports an AUI on the back cover in a DECstack
    unit....then you would have an AUI on the front and one on the back.
    (If it doesn't....duuh)

    Regards,j

    p.s. does the 90FS support AUI on the back cover like the 90TS and
    90T16?

    J,

    	Be careful when you say that the 90TS supports AUI. It only support
    AUI in the standalone version, NOT the stackable version.

    	I hope the engineers are given some time to implement the firmware
    to support the 90TS/AUI stackable in the near future. I think that is a
    valuable product.

    The 90FS does NOT support the rear-cover AUI.

    And I believe it was discussed earlier that the support for the rear
    cover AUI by the 90TS is not strictly a firmware issue. To summarize,
    it was decided not to support it because when you use the AUI port on a
    90TS, you lose the thinwire port, which is the backbone for the stack,
    so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense when this is considered.
    Furthermore, there are electrical reasons why it might not work...
    differences between the 90TS rear cover and the stackable rear cover.
    In conclusion, we have no plans to attempt this.
