SUBJ: HUBwatch for OpenVMS V4.1 Field Test to begin shortly

If you received this mail directly, you currently are on our
distribution list for field testing HUBwatch for OpenVMS V4.1.
If you do not want to participate in the field test, please let
me know and I'll remove you. I will also post this note in the
	HUB_MGNT notesfile.

We have a kit up and running on VMS. If it proves stable by
week's end, the first field test should be available at the
beginning of next week. This kit will contain the basic
HUBwatch functionality - alarm support and HUBloader functionality
we most likely not be present.

Be aware that our primary field testing will still be done internally
with the hub system testing group. But because of the unavailability
of a new HUBwatch kits since the V3.1 release, we plan to make the
kits available for "unofficial" field testing as well. We are doing
this partly to appease accounts that may be in critical situations
due to the need to manage modules that became available after
	the V3.1 release.

Because of this approach there are some issues you must understand:

	1. Because these are "unofficial" field test sites, problems reported
from the internal hub system testing group get priority over
problems coming in from the field. We will respond to problems
from the field as best as our resources will allow.

	2. Because this is an "unofficial" field test, we will not go
through the paperwork of making an external customer a field
test site. I'm no lawyer but there may be legal implications of
running these kits at customer sites. If you are going to
support a customer site with these field test releases, you
better educate the customer as to what they are getting and
that only limited, if any, support may be available from us
	   here in engineering.

There are a few things to note:

	1. There was never a HUBwatch for OpenVMS V4.0 kit. We are going
	   directly from V3.1 to V4.1.

	2. We plan to only support VMS V6.0 or later - no VMS V5.x support.

	3. We only have support for VAX hardware - not Alphas.

	4. The kits will have available as saveset files that you can
copy over the net - we will not be making tapes of any type
	   to support field test sites.

Ok you've peaked my interest... *where* are the kits located? And when
can I get my hands on them...?

    smile.

2958.4SSB date in calendar 1995 ???NCMAIL::SCHEIDThu Dec 07 1995 01:447

I would normally ask Jack Forrest ... when the SSB date for Hubwatch
for VAX V 4.1 is ... but it keeps changing ... any ballpark
    guesses...

2958.5No dates here, but the real dates are more predictable.SLINK::HOODMy God, what have I done to my spleen?Fri Dec 08 1995 14:478
Soon. If I were a betting man, I'd bet against 1995, simply because it's
only got a very few weeks left, and we've got lots of people using up
vacation time before the company uses it up for us.

On the other hand, a lot of the generally icky problems that we were
having with the OpenVMS build which resulted in the gawdawful schedule
inaccuracies are gone, so the current schedule is a lot more predictable.
Check with Jack Forrest (or John Forino).
