2919.0. "900FP set failure and formware reload problem" by ALEF::NIKOLIC () Fri Oct 27 1995 18:55

I am experiencing two problems with the portswitch 900FP.

1) In the LAN/group menu, (the one with the check marks), the intial state
    is that all the checkmarks are in the first row indicating connection
    to the thin-wire. Everything works OK.

    If I try to move
    the check mark for ports 3 and 4 to the second row, I get a
    "SET operation failure" and then all the check marks disappear, and
    I lose all connectivity between the ports of the 900FP and the hubs that
    it is connected to. I then have to walk to the hub and reset the FP module
    to factory defaults using the terminal port).

     Note - I can move ports 11-12 check mark to the 6th row, or ports 9-10
     check mark to the 5th row. It's when I move the the check mark in the
     2nd column to the 2nd row that I get the failure.

2)  If I try to upgrade the 900FP from v1.2.0 to v2.0.0 with hubloader I get a
    "Failed LC unknown error" and the upgrade does not complete.
    I got the firmware from the DEC FTP site. From the same site, I also
    got firmware for the DECbridge 900MX and the HUB itself. That firmware
    was successfully loaded.

Background.

The Main Hub with the 900FP is connected to 6 other hubs (containing 90 series
fiber modules).I am using ports pairs 1-6 to make the connections to the 6 other
hubs. The Main Hub is at firware 4.1 for the hub, 1.5.2 for the DECbridge
900MX and 1.2 for the 900FP (since it could not be upgraded to 2.0.0).
Hubwatch is at 4.0.1

Any help appreciated

Hi -

What port/device is providing the in-band IP service that
Hubwatch is using to manage the hub?

You said you're using Hubwatch 4.0.1 - did you really mean
4.1.0?

Maybe someone else can comment on any known downline load
problems with the Portswitch.

    Are you sure you did a factory reset on the FP. I recently saw the
    "Failed LC unknown error" when trying to upgrade a DEF6X through the
    MAM. A factory reset corrected the the problem.

    I am managing the hub through a DECrepeater 900TM. Don't know the
    firware rev because I am off-site.

    Also, the 900FP was reset a few times the day before (that's what I
    have to do to restore the network, when I disconnect it as descibed in
    the base note).

    Could it be hardware? Does it matter that I have the FP's ports 1-6
    connected to other hubs on other floors while I am doing the
    operations?

    Should I swap modules?

2919.4is the FP on the path from NMS-IPS?NETCAD::MOWERThu Nov 02 1995 15:505

    Does the path from your computer running HUBwatch ("NMS") to the
    IP Services module, (the 900TM, you said), include the 900FP in
    question?  If so, what port?

2919.5port 5 or 6USNCG::NIKOLICThu Dec 14 1995 17:115
    yes it does,

    I believe it is port 5 or 6
