| Yes, insofar as the forwarding engine code used. The primary
difference between the two products is that the PEswitch 900TX is
sold as a desktop Personal LAN solution, and as such only has a
64 node address table. The DECswitch 900EF is sold as a Departmental
LAN solution, and as such has an 8000 node address table. Other than
the address limitation, the store & forward algorithm is the same.
The address limitation however precludes using the PEswitch 900TX
as a network backbone traffic handler, as the 65th node or more seen
by the PEswitch would be flooded to all other PEswitch ports bringing
down the performance. So if the PEswitch is used in its proper place
in a LAN application/solution, it performs its duty nicely of bringing
10mb bandwidth to the desktop without any hitch in forwarding or
latency.
