2872.0. "DR900TM, DR900FP Module Not Responding" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Tue Oct 17 1995 00:37

	DEChub 900 Configuration:
	-------------------------

MAM module at rev 3.1.0 and IP address 150.150.58.44.IP services-solt 7.
	Slot 2 DS90TL
	Slot 6 DR900TM S/W ver 1.1.0
	Slot 7 DR900TM S/W ver 1.1.0
	Slot 8 DR900FP S/W ver 1.1.0
	Power Supply - Only one
Available Power is 15.5 watts still.

The above configuration has been working fine for nearly 12 months.

	Problem Now:
	------------

About 3 to 4 times a day the Hub Manager reports Module Not responding
for modules in slot 6, slot 7 and slot 8. Sometimes the problem will go away
for a couple of days. Sometimes the fault could happen twice in an hour.
The problem happens for all modules at the same time.

Following Error Logs have been dumped:

	DR900FP: Slot 8
	--------

	Entry 138
	Time Stamp 0 2659
	Reset Count 142
	Bus/Address Read Exc. @B011CB0FH, PC=24D3EC

All the next entries are the same except for the entry number, time
stamp and reset count. I had a look at 5 entries.

	DR900TM: Slot 7
	--------

	Entry 468
	Time Stamp 0 0
	Reset Count 475
	Buss/Address Read Exc. @B011CB0FH, PC=246B24 followed by a u character
						     with .. on top or a y
						     character with .. on top.

All the next entries are the same except for the entry number, time
stamp and reset count. I had a look at 5 entries.

	DR900TM: Slot 6
	--------

Same as above except for the entry number, time stamp and reset count.
I had a look at 5 entries.

Field Service has changed the Hubmanager Module, Power Supply and
DEChub 900 backplane.

I read note number 1114 in this conference for a similar problem, but
that has since been fixed by the later S/W of DR900. Also the Error Log dumps
in that note are totally different compared to the above.

My next step is to upgrade MAM to version 4.0 and if that doesn't fix it
then give the DR900TM x 2 and DR900FP and IP address each and see what happens.

Customer says that nothing has been added to the Network or HUB recently
that he knows of. This HUB was working fine for nearly a year.

What do the above Error Log Dumps Indicate ? Is there a tool or manual
that can be used for the field to decode such errors ? What good are the errors
if there is no manual to describe what they mean ? Everytime we have to put
those errors in this conference and await one of the engineers to say what it
means.

I asked Field Service to give IP addresses to two of the three
DECrepeater 900 units mentioned in .0 and see if the problem now occurs on the
one Repeater that doesn't have an IP address - Module Not Responding problem.

Field Service called within an hour and said that the Module Not
Responding occured only on the DECrepeater that doesn't have an IP address.
No problems on the other two repeaters that he gave IP addresses to.

MAM module is still at rev 3.1. Shall upgrade to rev 4.0 and see
what happens to the repeater which has no IP address.
