2860.0. "Treeing from the DC900TH to 2 DEChub 900s" by SCAS02::DAVIES (Mark, SCA Area Network Consultant) Fri Oct 13 1995 22:01

This should be a simple question for many, but it is a hard one for me.

My customer has a DEChub 900 with DS900EF on both the 3rd and 4th
floors of his building. On the 5th floor (computer room) he has a
    DEChub 900 with a DC900TH which has 2 MMF ports (A/B) and 12 UTP
    ports.

He wants to connect all 3 DEChubs together with FDDI MMF. This is easy
enough by just creating a dual ring with 3 DAS stations.

    PROBLEM:

He only has one strand of fiber going from the 5th floor to the 3rd and
4th floors and he does not want to string another strand to each of the
    floors.

    QUESTION:

Is there a way for him to connect the DEChub on the 3rd floor to one of
the DC900TH MMF ports and connect the 4th floor DEChub to the other MMF
    port of the DC900TH?

This would sort of be like "treeing" the 3rd/4th floor DEChubs of the
DC900TH. He will be connecting all of his servers into the DC900TH UTP
    ports.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Sure, the only gotcha is you have a wrapped ring with no redundancy if you
    lose a port or a link -

    		       DC900TH
    		     A B
    		     / \
    		    / \
                   B A
    	      DS900EF DS900EF

Are there any Ethernet based modules in the 5th floor hub that need
connectivity to the 3rd/4th floor hubs?
