2859.0. "100BaseT today?" by CGOS01::DMARLOWE (Lost in thought without a map.) Fri Oct 13 1995 21:09

    I will be talking to a customer soon about expanding their campus
    network. What are we doing in the interim regarding 100BaseT repeating
    and switching?

    I may not be able to fully beat this one into the ground so any info as
    to what we're doing immediately would be appreciated. Send mail if
    necessary.

    Thanks,
    dave

2859.1Peiper/Cronin did good overviewPTOJJD::DANZAKSat Oct 14 1995 15:0218
    At the SE symposium they were talking about things in the next 6 months
    that were NOT able to be put into the hub but WOULD do 100T.

    Karl Peiper and Bill Cronin were talking about it.

    Marketing SHOULD give us a positioning paper but....(aarugh)

    To date, I've been using the:

     - Topology restrictions (200m) unless u bridge/repeat
     - Repeater restrictions (i.e. 2 repeater MAX) in the 200M
     - Use of dual-homed DAS to achieve better fault tolerance
       for production applications
     - Only 60% thruput in bursty modes (i.e. ref:Cronins IEEE paper)

    Hope that helps,
    j
