2807.0. "DownGrading DECprobe90 ???" by EVOA00::VISTA (Renato VISTA/MCS/NS France/ZTO) Thu Sep 28 1995 16:54

    Hi,

After searching the lastest release of DECpacketPROBE90, and founding
ns3220.s (!!), I've downline loaded it... and the ETHERNET probe has
rebooted with the TOKEN DECpacketPROBE 900RR version 2.6 !!!!

So, I'm trying to downgrade the firmware... but, after setting the IP
addr, SUBnet mask, DEF Gateway & TFTP Server Addr, the RESET option is
done but not followed by a normal reboot... so that the NVRAM is not
    updated...

My simple question is : is it possible to downgrade by using a
pseudo-PROM console mode... or the DECprobe90 has now to be considered
IN FAILURE and NOT USABLE any more ???

    Thank you for your help.
    Renato

        Hello Renato,

First, I don't think you actually loader ns3220.s (Tokenring
software) on to an Ethernet DECpacketPROBE90... because the
"tftp_filename" is hard-coded to be ns3210.s and it should not have
taken the load. Are you sure you don't have a Tokenring Packetprobe RR?

Second - to clear your NVRAM, just start another tftp load, it will
first clear your NVRAM, then when your probe starts to load, stop your
tftp server. Then reboot your probe, it will default back to V1.2 of
Packetprobe software. At that time you can then reissue another load
using ns3210.s (DECpacketPROBE90 firmware). After you loaded the probe,
do a #12 Reset Agent, to boot the new image.
