2698.0. "Bridge buffers" by CSC32::B_HORNE () Thu Aug 31 1995 20:51

    Hello,

    I have a network trace of an IPX server sending watchdog packets at a
    very rapid rate (in fact, the network was unusable during this event).
    The customer claims that the server was unplugged and the DECbridge
    900 continued to flood this packet onto the network until it was
    rebooted. The trace shows that the same IPX packet is being repeatedly
    sent HOWEVER the 11-byte pad (used to bring the packet size to 64 byte
    minimum) is different in each packet.

    Does a 900mx bridge store the packet in it's entirety including pad?
    I would suspect this would be the case... Or, is this a "real smart"
    bridge which can discern the pdu length, not store the pad characters
    and subsequently add it's own padding upon forward transmission?
    I don't think so but would like clarification from someone that knows
    more about the internal buffering functions of the bridge.

    Thanks in advance for any help...

    Bob
