2658.0. "Routing multiple nets, brouter, switch questions" by PTOJJD::DANZAK () Mon Aug 21 1995 21:28

    Folks..

I have multiple buildings which will be coming into a DEChub 900 with
    class c networks.  If I have a DECbrouter 90 and DECswitch 900EF, can I
bring multiple subnets into the EF (via a Portswitch 900FP) and then
use the DECbrouter 90's one Ethernet port to basically subnet route
back to the same Ethernet for IP stuff.

OR....do I need to use the EF with routing code to do that.....?

AND...can a 900EF route two DIFFERENT subnets to one port with 1.) IP
routing code and 2.) FULL routing code.

AND.....which is likely to offer better performance....?

My guess is that ALL combos of the above would/should work and that the
best performance may be routing via the DECbrouter 90.

    ANy thoughts?

    Thanks,
    j

The DECbrouter 90 can provide routing between different subnets on the
same lan. We have done this in the past because it is the only hub based
router we really have(waiting for routing code).

Since the DECbrouter 90 only has the one ethernet interface all traffic
from the 900EF will have to get dumped on and off the thinwire. That
    might be a bottle neck.

Might check the routing software notes file for your other question.

The pointer for the common brouter notes conference is....

You might want to cross-post the base note there Jon, to further
supplement any answers you might get here.
