2648.0. "900MX PHY LED not lit when it should.." by SALUD::ORTIZ () Wed Aug 16 1995 16:17

I have a site that has a DEChub 900. The initial setup in the hub is as
    follows:

                    slot 7 slot 8

               900MX Concentrator "A" 900EF bridge

                 port a - front port a - back
                 port b - back port b - front -- going to
port a on 900EF in the next
    						  Hub900
Port A and Port B LEDs on the 900EF bridge are lit, which is what we
    should
see. Slot 7 and Slot 8 are connected to the FDDI LAN.

New scenario. He takes Concentrator "A" out of slot 7 and puts it in
    Slot 6.
He puts in another 900MX Concentrator "B" in Slot 7:

            slot 6 slot 7 slot 8

        900MX Concentrator "A" 900MX Concentrator "B" 900EF bridge

            port a - front port a - back port a - back
            port b - back port b - back port b - front
    							  (going to port a on
    							   900EF in next
    							   HUB900)

Port A and Port B PHY LEDs on the 900MX Concentrator are NOT LIT, However,
he connects to the M port and all is well. We go into HUBwatch and look
at port A and port B and they are in CONNECTING MODE, which tells me
why we are not seeing the PHY port not lit. I can't see how wrapping is
here since both ports are in a CONNECTING MODE. They are running HUB
firmware 4.0 and DECconcentrator 900MX 3.0.0. Hubwatch is also at 4.0

    Any help would be appreciated...

Okay, let's make sure we are on the same page...

Are you talking about slot #7 here? How do you know "all is well", are
you communicating with another station on the ring, etc?

Also, when the concentrator is configured to have both A,B out the
back, the front panel connectors become M ports - the phy lights are
for those M ports, and you have no phy lights for the backplane A,B
ports. All you have then is the "#" led, which will light with
        _any_ connection.

Double-click on the module body (not the ports) to bring up the FDDI
summary screen. At the bottom you will see a scrolling view
of the ports, and A and B will be at the bottom labelled BP1 and BP2.

Are you sure? You're probably looking at a front panel M port that
has no connection. Whats the port type (top left box)?.

You can tell if the concentrator is wrapped or through using the
FDDI summary window, top right box, the CF state object.

	Hope this helps.
