2638.0. "Redundancy with DEFMI and DEFMM " by MEO78A::BARNHOORN (Barney to his friends) Mon Aug 14 1995 07:35

The same customer (re 2637) would like to put in some redundancy into
    his network.

They are putting in new fibre cables (via different routes) between
buildings. We have put in dual DEChub 900s, dual homed (FDDI) the
    systems.

They are now asking about either a Fault Tolerant Fibre MAU (do we have
one? or does a third party make one that works with the DEFMM?) or
using a DECRepeater 90FS (DEFMI) in a redundant configuration.

If we have to use a DEFMI can we connect it in the following way?

              HUB 1 HUB 2
                    =====FDDI==========
              900EF Switch 900EF Switch (+ more modules)
              900FP Repeater 900FP Repeater ( in both hubs )
                  \ /
                   \ /
                    \ /
                     \ /
                      \ /
                       \ / (this in backup)
90 FS (DEFMI) (same config 12 times)
                           |
                        DELNI
                         |
                        IVAXes and Process Control Systems

They want to be able to survive
           a HUB failure
           a module failure (900FP)
           a fibre cable failure

    Thanks for any information.

    Mark.

Yes, I believe the configuration you show will meet all requirements.
The DEFMI at the bottom of your drawing would be set up as the DPR
master, and the ports in the 900FPs in the 900 hubs would be set up as
    responders.
