2623.0. "Bug?!!" by NETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com" (Steven Freke) Wed Aug 09 1995 09:17

Hi there
	I have a customer who is running hubwatch v3.1 for windows, a
decserver 900tm running NAS 1.3. The hub is running V3.

When he goes into hubwatch and changes some of the characteristics, he
notices that then when he does a sho port 2 char, he gets an authourized
groups field but no current groups field. To solve this problem he has to
log the port out from the terminal server local prompt.

Although this is not causing him a major problem he is insisting on an
explanation.
So what I am really after is, does anybody have an explanation for this,
or seen it before and can recommend a solution.

Any help would be greatly apprecitted. And I would be ineternal debt to
you.

	Steven

2623.1DEFINE versus SETTOOK::BKWALWed Aug 09 1995 15:418
	The DECserver products (90, 700 and 900) have a permanent set of
	characteristics stored in NVram and an operational set stored in
	ram. HUBwatch (and any other SNMP management tool) modify the
	permanent set. This can be verified vis a "LIST PORT x" command.

	When a port logs in or out the permanent characteristics are
	copied from NVram into the operational settings.
2623.2Yes but!!NETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com"Steven FrekeWed Aug 09 1995 15:4911
Hi There
	Yes I understand the difference between the difference between the set
and the define commands.
But that this not the issue, the problem is why does the field entitled
current group dissappear from the screen. So all you have is
authourized groups.

Theory's anyone

2623.3Sure it's a "SHOW" command?TOOK::BKWALWed Aug 09 1995 16:044

    How exactly is the customer doing a "sho po ..."? If he is doing a
    "LIST PORT x" from the server UI there is no current groups field
    in that display.
2623.4Just checkedNETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com"steven frekeWed Aug 09 1995 16:166
Hi there
	I have just checked with the customer and he reckons that he is doing a
show port when this is happening.

    Then I reckon I don't know. A SHOW PORT display on should have a line
    for current groups even if none are enabled (it won't say NONE, just
    have "(Current) Groups:"). If he has the before and after settings I
    can see if it's reproducible.
2623.6DNAS v1.5 has been shipping for awhileTOOK::BKWALWed Aug 09 1995 16:454

    In the FWIW catagory DNAS v1.3 is very old. If this is bothersome
    enough to file an IMPT the first thing you/he will be told is to
    upgrade.
2623.7Thanks for your helpNETRIX::"sf@uvo.dec.com"Steven FrekeThu Aug 10 1995 08:356
Hello there
	Thank - you for your help. I think that I will suggest an upgrade to him.
And give him the reason that you have given me. Thank - you very much
