2555.0. "Firmware files for a Hubwatch V3.1 environment" by CENPCS::BIRMINGHAM (Transporter Room - 1 to beam up...) Tue Jul 25 1995 16:05

    On Tuesday of next week (8/1/95) I am going to work on a DEChub 900
    configuration involving FDDI and DECswitch900-EF's. The customer is
    running Hubwatch V3.1 on OpenVMS, and suggestions have been made that
    his inability to configure his hub is related to firmware revisions
    in the DECswitch900-EF's and other hub modules. I have not been on-site
    yet, but would like to go armed with as much of the right stuff as
    possible. I have pulled the HUBwatch V3.1 Release Notes and have the
    minimum revision levels for the firmware, but where do I get the
    firmware load files, DECndu, etc. to upgrade with ? I looked at the
    pointers and see the Firmware kit for V4.0 of Hubwatch, but the next
    lower firmware seems to be a V1.x. What do I really need ?

    Thanks,
    George

2555.1Need Hubwatch 4.0.1NETCAD::ROUNDSTue Jul 25 1995 16:533
    You need Hubwatch 4.0.1 and Hub Manager code 4.0.2 to manage the latest
    DECswitch 900 EF firmware 1.5. HUBWATCH 4.0.1 has only been released
    on OSF and DOS.
2555.2Perhaps if I stated it differently...CENPCS::BIRMINGHAMTransporter Room - 1 to beam up...Tue Jul 25 1995 17:4833
    Ok, I understand the issue around HubWatch V4.0 and the latest
    Consolidated Firmware kit. You have to have Hubwatch V4.0.1, available
    on OSF/1 and DOS *only* to use the Consolidated Firmware kit.

    **** MY problem ***

    1. Customer has Hubwatch V3.1 on OpenVMS, probably does not have a
       DOS system to run Hubwatch/Windows on, and doesn not have OSF/1
       system.

    2. Customer possibly has options that are behind in firmware upgrades
       so that V3.1 doesn't deal with them too well. I don't know exact
       versions since I haven't been on site.

    3. Site is a 'right far piece' from a Digital office with network
       capability, so I have to take the right stuff when I go the first
       time. The customer and I don't have time to do this twice...

    *** The BIG Question ***

    	If I intend to use Hubwatch V3.1 ( my only choice since V4.0 for
        VMS isn't out yet), then what firmware kit do I need to take,
        and since Hubloader isn't in V3.1, where can I find DECndu ?
        Also does DECndu require a PAK ( yes I know this has been
        covered elsewhere, but I'v become accustomed to one-stop
    	shopping, so I thought I'd ask here :-)  )

    Any help would be appreciated so I don't look foolish in front of the
    customer.

    Thanks in advance,
    George

    Okay, you can get the firmware you need from the V1.1 consolidated kit
    found in the same area as mentioned in note #2 except the subdirectory
    is v1_1. See the README.TXT file in the dos subdirectory for the
    actual list of versions.

    I don't know about DECndu or hubloader in your case.

    Picked up DECndu already. Thanks for the pointer to the correct
    firmware for a Hubwatch v3.1 environment.
