2488.0. "HW 4.0 disk2 seems too big " by BACHUS::ROELANDTS (Wa d'es ma da ve ne stuut) Fri Jul 07 1995 15:34

    Hello,

    I found the pointer for HUBwatch V4.0 for Windows, but there seems to
    be a small problem the contents of disk2 directory does not fit on a
    1.44 Mb formatted floppy. Is this normal.

    Sorry, but it's the first time I'm copying the Hubwatch kit.

    Regards.

2488.1STRWRS::KOCH_PIt never hurts to ask...Fri Jul 07 1995 16:594

    I ran into the problem with a "quick" formatted floppy. Make sure to do
    a full format of the floppy and see if that works. A quick format saves
    "unformat" info which takes up space on the floppy.

    Hello,

    The floppies I'm trying to use are new ones and I formatted them
    without the /Q (for quick format) and I'm getting 1,457,664 bytes
    free on all the floppies and a dir from disk2 show 1,495,437 bytes.
    So I really think it won't fit on it.

    Regards.

2488.3Size is barely OK on masterNAC::FORRESTThu Jul 13 1995 20:246
    The file size total on the master diskette is 1,457,194 bytes looking
    at it with File Manager. If I look at the network directory, it is also
    1,457,194 bytes. Is something happening in the copy process to increase
    the size of the files?

2488.4And "disk.id" ?MXOC00::CSILVAMon Jul 17 1995 23:4313
    Hello Jack!!

    OK, the size of the file is exactly the capacity of a HD 3 1/2" disk.

    But there's also a "disk.id" file that the installer needs to recognize
    	the disk as number 2.

    I have the same problem at installation, at this moment trying to cheat
     the installer copying all the binary files somewhere in the hard disk and
    replacing disk.id in File Manager as the installer ask for a new disk.

2488.5It works nowBACHUS::ROELANDTSWa d'es ma da ve ne stuutWed Jul 19 1995 12:4913

    Hello,

    I copied again the files with an exchange/network command instead of a
    copy the I FTP'd it to my PC and I get the exact number of bytes I'm
    having on my floppy.

    Sorry to have disturbed for this.

    Regards.

2488.6size I gave included the disk.id fileNAC::FORRESTThu Jul 20 1995 14:187
    re .4 - If I did not make it clear in my first note, the "total" size
    of "all" files in the DISK2 network directory is exactly the same as
    on the master diskette from which they were copied. In both cases, the
    total number of bytes is just slightly less than the number of bytes on a
    freshly formatted diskette.
