2482.0. "HUBwatch FDDI loading?" by FILTON::PACK_J (Cloud Base is heaven) Thu Jul 06 1995 15:01

Does anyone know if the FDDI loading that is reported by HUBWatch when
polling a DECswitch900 is accurate and can be relied on?

Why? I have a switch that via hubwatch reports 30% FDDI loading, and
I'm not convinced that this is true.

What platform are you using for HUBwatch?

No, it is not always accurate. There are two reasons.

    1) In some cases the values used for the calculation are reported
incorrectly to Hubwatch. This appears to be a binning error, and is
recognizable as a jump in the utilization when there should be a
    constant load.

    2) The averaging time for the report depends on the time between
mouse clicks. For some types of bursty loads, this can look like
problem 1, but its really a idfferent phenomenon.

We are working on improving this for a future release. For now, I would
not rely on this display for an accurate answer.
