2468.0. "hw401 install fatal error" by SOSGPX::SOTTOCORNO (And now the jazz takes over) Wed Jul 05 1995 14:39

    Hi all,

Installing the Hubwatch for window 4.0.1 copied from
NAC::NIPG:[MANAGE.WINDOWS.WINDOW40.DISK%] I got the following error

"Fatal Error at script line 825"
    	"cannot open MediaBuilder Library file"

immediatly after the insertion of second floppy (disk2).
I compared the contents of the floppy with the [.disk2] directory
on NAC::. They are the same.

Is this a known problem of the kit?
    Is there a possible workaround?

Thanks in advance for any help

2468.1Place files in 1 directory; How did you copy the files?NETCAD::WAGNERCOFFILTue Jul 11 1995 20:2629
>> "Fatal Error at script line 825"
>> "cannot open MediaBuilder Library file"

This script error is usually reported when the diskettes
are copied to separate hard disk directories and you run
the installer from the first disk directory.
	e.g. C:\HUBWKIT
			\DISK1\INSTALL.EXE
			\DISK2
			\DISK3

The install program we use (HPI's Instalit) does not allow you to
span across directories. The HUBwatch set of files on 3 diskettes
should reside in one single directory to be installed from.
	e.g. C:\HUBWKIT\INSTALL.EXE, *.*

	With that said...
Maybe there is something in the way the files are being copied.
Exactly how did you copy the files???
What type of system did you copy to using what commands and switches??
Are you installing on PC running Windows 3.1 or WFW 3.11? NT?

At least 2 other people have had this problem and we have not been
	able to reproduce this.

Of course... if you place all the HUBwatch files in a single directory
and install from there, you should not have any problem.

2468.2me too ....HERON::virenq.vbo.dec.com::HEMMINGSLanterne RougeWed Jul 12 1995 13:568
I copied the files using DECnet (FTSV) and had them in sub-directories DISK1
etc under FMWR401. I then used this as a file service and fired up the
install while pointing at DISK1. I got the same error, so I made the
floppies and it installed fine.

I regularly do this type of install with other products - TL V2.5 this
morning, but I can't remember if I tried it with HUBwatch, I rather think I
have and it was OK.
2468.3Known problem; Installer does not span directoriesNETCAD::WAGNERCOFFILWed Jul 12 1995 14:4014

As I previously indicated this is typically when we see this known
error. Instalit does not handle files that span directories.

There are no problems using a network file service to install from
as long as all the HUBwatch diskette files are placed in a single
	directory instead of 3.
