2377.0. "DECswiwtch900EF and Gigaswitch conf?" by WARABI::CHIUANDREW () Tue Jun 13 1995 05:12

Hi,

Just want to confirm the following Gigaswitch/DECswitch900EF configuration:
where Gigaswitches (GS1 and GS2) are connected via 2 Group Links (S-S
connections) and the two DECswitches (DS1 and DS2) are connected via M-S,
(A-port of DS1 converted to M, B-port of DS1 converted to S and it is the
same for DECswitch900EF DS2). The connections of DECswitch900EFs are via Front
panel and they are installed in a DEChub900, my questions are:

                       -------------- ---------------
		       | DS1 | | DS2 |
	    ---------- | S M |-----------|S(B) M |
	    | | (B) (A)| | (A)|------|
	    | -------------- --------------- |
            | |
            | |
	    | |
    ----------------- ----------------- |
    | M | | | |
    | Gigaswitch1 S|--------------------------|S Gigaswitch2 | |
    | S|--------------------------|S S |------
    | | | |
    ----------------- -----------------

1) Is it a 'valid' FDDI tree configuration (since we have a tree, root is GS1,
but GS1/GS2 are connected via GROUP LINKS)?

2) If the GROUP LINKS between GS1 and GS2 are active all the time, then will
   M-S connection between DS1/DS2 in backup/standby/active mode?

3) If link between DS1/GS1 is down, can Ethernet LANs connected to DS1, still
communicate with LANs connected to GS1 via DS2/GS2?

thanks in advance for help!
