2261.0. "Repeater configurations" by ABACUS::BUKOWSKI () Tue May 09 1995 14:43

If I install DECrepeater 900's with one line per office, could I
attach a UTP-Thinwire converter and plug 29 Thinwire devices of
of this line. This would mean 29 addresses would be destined
to one UTP port on the repeater. Would the security feature of
the repeater cause problems in this configuration?

You didn't mention which 900-family TP product... the 900TM, 900GM,
or 900TP. Regardless, none of them support enough authorized addresses
per port to allow use of the security feature in the configuration you
mention. So to operate correctly in your configuration, make sure both
eavesdropping and intrusion security features are disabled for the port
with the large number of addresses attached.

... and remember to count your UTP/Thinwire converter as a repeater
    hop.

RE: -1 I'm using the UTP version. So I can do this with security
disabled. I've been told the UTP to thinwire is not a repeater and
    shouldn't count in the rule.

    >> I'm using the UTP version.

All the products I mentioned support both UTP and STP cabling, 100 ohm
    impedance.

    >> So I can do this with security disabled.

    Yup.
